The nutritional value and taste is something that you cannot ignore.

It’s one of those super foods that is just too good not to consume.

Plus, it’s very versatile.

It can be used in various dishes, smoothies and snacks.

I use hemp seeds practically everyday to help supplement my daily nutritional requirements. Hence, one of the reasons why I decided to review one of the most popular hemp seeds on the market.

I bought the Nutiva Organic Raw-Shelled Hemp Seeds 3-pound bag as I wanted to give it a good test run.

But before we get into the review, you’ll be surprised that a lot of people don’t know what hemp seeds are.

So, let’s do a quick overview of the powerful superfood.

What Are Hemp Seeds

It is the seed of the Cannabis Sativa plant.

Don’t worry, hemp seeds has very little to no THC(less than 0.35%) content and is completely healthy for human consumption.

THC in the typical marijuana is (5%-35%).

So you’re not going to get “high” from using hemp seeds.

The Benefits Of Hemp Seeds

They’re packed with protein and provide all the necessary amino acids you need to maintain and build muscle.

So, you no longer need meat to get your protein requirement, there are tons of plant-based sources that do just that.

And hemp seeds is just one of them.

The protein in hemp seeds are easily digestible, so your body doesn’t have to work overtime to break it down.

Not only are they packed with protein, but they are rich in fiber.

Hemp seeds consist of both soluble and insoluble fibers.

Remember, soluble fibers are the ones that are easily dissolved in water and quickly absorbed by the body.

On the other hand, insoluble fibers are not digested but instead help clean the digestive tract and remove toxins.

I do a lot of research before buying any product online.

The team behind the product tells you a lot about what to expect from the product.

In the case of Nutiva, they have been around from 1999.  Mainly focusing on producing hemp-based products.

So, it’s safe to say that they have perfected the art of producing high quality products.

Taste and Texture

One of the things I love about raw hemp seeds is that it is very versatile and doesn’t take much to include it in your meals.

For this particular product, it comes with a nutty flavor.

If you like raw dishes, hemp seeds will come in very handy to give it that extra crunchy taste. It is very easy to chew and digest.

How To Make Hemp Milk With Nutiva Seeds

One of the biggest issues for persons thinking of giving up the creaminess that you get from dairy.

But that can be easily fixed by getting your milk from hemp seeds.

So, I am going to give you a quick guide on how to make hemp milk. Don’t worry it is easy to do.

Things you will need:

  • A blender
  • 2 cups of water
  • Sweetener (honey, stevia or dates)
  • Fine grained strainer.
  • Vanilla extract (can be liquid or powder)
  • Salt
  • Optional; powdered coconut milk if you want it to be extra creamy

Instructions:

  • Pour the 2 cups of water into the blender
  • Then add ½ to 1 cup of hemp seeds
  • 1tbsp of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Then add your sweetening agent as per your desired sweetness.
  • Now you are going to blend the mix on high speed on and off for 30 seconds until it’s smooth with tiny grains.
  • Strain the milk into a clean container (you might want to strain it a second time to get rid of extra shells).
  • It can be kept refrigerated for up to 5 days.

Ways You Can Use Hemps Seeds

To me the creaminess is unparalleled to any other plant milk such as cashew, oats and rice milk.

Therefore, it’s perfect for making smoothies.

After a heart-pounding workout, you can use it as your base when mixing your vegan protein powder.

If you are not going to blend the protein shake, then make sure you add a little room temperature water to the protein powder to avoid lumps in the shake.

Once the mixture is smooth you can add the hemp milk.

Another way to use hemp seeds is to sprinkle it over your salads. This will definitely increase the protein content of any salad bowl.

Lastly, one of my favorite ways to use the Nutiva Hemp seeds is to sprinkle it on my oatmeal breakfast.

Honestly, this milk can be used in any recipe that you generally use dairy milk as it is a great substitute.
